Sam is on a roll. After losing work because of Covid, he struggled at first to find work. Eventually he was able to get a job at the World Championships as a custodian, cleaning the dorm rooms that housed the athletes. As a bonus he got to meet several of the visiting athletes in that first week of work. He joined a crew of eight workers and a boss who taught him the ropes. He enjoys working with a team and says that his boss is “a cool lady.” Working with the team helps the time fly by and he leaves work tired and feeling that he has accomplished something of worth. As Sam says “having a job again feels great. I get bored when I am not working.”

His goal is to get a job at the U of O full time. He’s a good cleaner and getting faster all the time. He can now make a bed as tight as you’d find in the military. With the camaraderie and the pride in a job well done, Sam’s self-esteem and confidence have blossomed. At Nightingale we couldn’t be more proud of Sam’s success.
